Hair Extension FAQs

Without a doubt, before getting hair extensions fitted, or re-fitted, you will have many questions. Due to this, we have collected some of our frequently asked questions and answered them below. Of course, if any of your questions aren’t answered here, our hair extensionists will be more than happy to answer any questions you have over the phone, during your consultation or at your appointment.

General questions

Hair extensions are a way in which you add hair to your natural hair to add length, volume and/ or thickness. There are many methods of application, however, our chosen method at Caprio’s is the pre-bonded cold fusion method as this application requires no heat which is kinder to the hair.

This depends on person to person and as well the type of hair you have, however, ideally your hair should be a minimum of 10cm.

Consultation questions

No, we don’t charge for our consultations.

In addition to any questions that are asked on this page, your consultation allows you to ask any other questions you have, match the correct colour hair extensions to the colour of your natural hair, assess the condition of your hair, discuss your desired result and expectations, provide you with a quote, allow the extensionist to get to know your hair and much more!

Hair questions

Caprio’s Hair Studio uses 100% human hair for your hair extensions. It is supplied from Great Lengths which is an Italian company who source the hair from India.

Yes and no…. If you were to lose the odd strand, we will re-bond the hair if need be otherwise, we don’t re-fit the same hair once it is removed. Great Lengths extensions last in the hair between 3-6 months, some clients leaving them in longer, during this time the hair will have been through many hair colours, blow dries, straightening and other mechanical and environmental factors so we always use new extensions when replacing them. The old extensions removed are donated to The Little Princesses Trust which is a charity that makes wigs for children suffering from cancer.

Application questions

We use the cold fusion method to apply our hair extensions as we believe this is the best application option to apply Great Lengths hair extensions.

The individual Keratin bond is wrapped around a small supporting section of hair and secured in place.

The application process can take between 2 and 4 hours depending on how many individual bonds are required. However, this does vary from person to person.

Styling questions

We recommend that you avoid any hair products that contain oil, or at least to not directly apply them to the bonds. However, generally speaking yes you can. There are certain brands that we know don’t react well with extensions, we will provide you with this information during your consultation.

Yes, you can continue to use hair straightners, curlers and hairdryers on your hair, however, do not apply to much excessive heat. Also, try to avoid direct contact with the bonds and the heat as this could melt the bonds, fusing them together.

Yes, our method of application allows you to wear your hair down and tied up/back. You can treat the extensions in the same way you would your own hair.

To get the most out of your hair extensions, we recommend you keep your hair clean and oil free. For this reason, we would suggest regularly washing your hair rather than using dry shampoo.

Removal questions

This varies from individual to individual and depends on a range of factors. However, well maintained hair extensions will last longer.

Our team would strongly advise that you do not do this. This is because it can lead to your natural hair being damaged.

Usually, hair extensions can be removed in 2 hours. However, poorly maintained extensions can take a while longer. Once we have removed the extensions in salon, we will cleanse your hair followed by a cut and blow dry as your own hair will not have been cut for the duration of time you have had the extensions in.
